Powerless FAQs – what people also asked

Text contentHere are the answers to some common questions that people people have asked about my debut novel, Powerless:

What is the book Powerless about?

Powerless is a young adult novel about Hanna, a 16-year-old girl who is the only one of her siblings who doesn’t have super powers. Her father, Artem, is the scientist who discovered the super gene mutation and he is losing patience with Hanna.

When a suspected research leak leads him to kick her out of the family home, Hanna tangles with the Russian mafia and needs to question where her loyalties lie, and how far she will go to be accepted by her family.

What is the age rating for Powerless?

Powerless is a young adult book, and I’d recommend it for readers over 14 years old because of some of the darker themes (see the trigger warnings below). However, you know your (or your kids’) reading preferences, so you can decide if it’s an appropriate read accordingly.

What are the trigger warnings for the Powerless book?

Powerless contains strong language and depictions of self-harm, violence, depression and unhealthy family dynamics. Please be mindful of these and other possible triggers if you choose to read it.

Is Powerless a spicy book?

No, Powerless isn’t spicy and doesn’t have a romantic subplot.

While I love a good romance, one of the things that has always frustrated me is how much importance romantic relationships are given over other relationships in fiction. I also think that, for some people, if you’re fighting for your life, you’re probably not thinking about romance, but maybe that’s just me. 😀

In Powerless, the emotional heart of the story is the relationship between Hanna and her sister, Maria.

Is the Powerless book clean?

When it comes to romance, there is no romance and no spicy scenes. However, there is on-page violence and self-harm, as well as strong language.

Is Powerless a good book?

I think so! You can check out the Powerless Goodreads page for reader reviews – it currently has a rating of 4.3 stars.

How many pages are in Powerless?

The hardcover is 308 pages and the paperback version is 397 pages (the stories are the same, but the page count is different because the pages are different sizes in the different versions of the book. Bigger pages = more words on a page = fewer pages).

Does Powerless have a happy ending?

Powerless has a happy ending, where the major threat is taken down. However, a number of things are left open and will be resolved in the sequel.

Will there be a sequel to Powerless?

Yes, my plan is for Powerless to be a duology. The second book will tie up a number of loose ends from the first one, we will learn more about Hanna and her siblings, and the book will include Maria’s point of view as well as Hanna’s.

I can’t go into the plot without spoiling Powerless, but rest assured there will be brutal fights, emotional clashes, new superpowers and secrets revealed.
